About Us

Barrie Hill and Grenville Price purchased Michael Levin Jewellers, Nottingham in 1976 from Michael Levin who had run the business very successfully since 1966.

Barrie and Grenville formed their business partnership in 1968 when they opened a trade jewellery repair and engraving business in Forman Street Nottingham, the business rapidly expanded and had accounts with many Nottingham jewellers and in outlying towns. The workshop had three engravers, five working jewellers and a receptionist and was able to offer a fast and reliable service.

In 1974 Barrie and Grenville expanded their business when they purchased one of Nottingham’s oldest jewellers. The shop Gibbs of Goosegate was established in 1860 and Richard Wagstaff Gibbs was on hand to offer a wealth of knowledge from his lifetime experience in the trade, Richard Gibbs at that time was one of the country’s leading experts on antique jewellery and silverware, his legacy to the partners was to share this knowledge and his profound interest in the jewellery trade.

Nottingham also benefitted from Richard’s generosity when he donated his priceless collection of antique jewellery and silverware to the city, this unique collection can be viewed at Nottingham castle today.

Michael Levin Jewellers expansion programme over the last thirty nine years has given the shop a reputation second to none and the business is synonymous with diamonds, fine quality antique and modern jewellery and silverware.

In April 2016 Barrie retired and the business is continuing under the ownership of Grenville whose 53 years of experience in the trade will ensure that the business continues to offer expertise and quality service synonymous with a family business.
